What Is the ClosureFast™ Vein Procedure?
ClosureFast™ is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce the appearance of varicose veins by sealing the diseased vein using short bursts of heat in targeted areas. A catheter is inserted through a tiny incision made below the knee and guided by ultrasound imaging to the diseased vein. It delivers constant, uniform heat, which slowly contracts the collagen in the vein wall, sealing it shut and rerouting blood to healthy veins throughout the body. The vein is treated in seven cm segments for 20 seconds each. The treated vein slowly becomes fibrous tissue and is gradually absorbed into the surrounding muscle. Local anesthesia is applied to the treated area to eliminate pain and discomfort during the procedure.
How Long Does the ClosureFast™ Procedure Take?
ClosureFast™ is a safe and minimally invasive treatment performed in one of our multiple locations throughout the area while under local or general anesthesia. Every patient’s experience will be different. However, most treatments require 45 to 60 minutes to complete. During your consultation, our doctors will inform you of the duration of the procedure. Numerous factors can change how long the process lasts, including the following:
- The Size of the Treatment Area
- The Number of Varicose Veins Being Treated
- Number of Legs Being Treated
Do I Need the ClosureFast™ Vein Procedure?
Varicose and spider veins are incredibly common. In fact, millions of adults throughout the United States have them. Luckily, for most, varicose veins are an aesthetic concern. Varicose veins are the result of weak or damaged valves used to direct blood flow to and from the heart. When these valves begin to break down, blood can no longer flow through the vein and instead pool in the area. This process can cause the vein to become larger and swell above the skin. Many contributing factors lead to varicose veins, including the following:
- Lifestyle – Those who are more active are less prone to developing varicose veins.
- Weight – Obesity plays a significant role in varicose veins. Those who are overweight may notice more severe varicose veins.
- Family History – Those with varicose veins are more likely to have family members with varicose veins.
- Pregnancy – Increased blood volume, which accompanies pregnancy, can cause your blood vessels to fail.
- Age – Varicose veins are much more prevalent in seniors as their veins wear down throughout their lifetime.
What Are the Benefits of the ClosureFast™ Procedure?
Hundreds of thousands of patients in countries all over the world have experienced the benefits of the ClosureFast™ vein procedure. Other types of methods require multiple incisions to treat the varicose vein. Varicose vein ligation and stripping require the doctor to tie off the ends of the vein. Then the vein is removed through another incision just above the calf to remove the vein. The procedure is typically done under local or general anesthesia and requires up to eight weeks of recovery.
